How the Apple iPad came About
Similar to the iPhone, the Apple iPad shares its name with other existing products. One of the most publicized would be the Fujitsu iPad. The latter is a type of mobile multi-functional device that was sold to numerous retailers as a way for clerks to verify prices, to check inventories and to close sales.
In the year 2002, the iPad was first introduced by Fujitsu- a large scale Japanese company. Though the company applied for the trademark the following year, they found out that it was already owned by a certain Mag-Tek company. Due to these findings, Fujitsu abandoned their trademark application up through the year 2009. At the time, ownership for the trademark remained “unclear”. After several consultations and disputes, the iPad US trademark of Fujitsu was transferred to Apple.
For Apple, their first tablet computer is known as the Newton Message Pad 100. This tablet was first introduced in the year 1993. Following its release, the ARM6 processor core was created by Acorn Computers. Aside from the Newton Message Pad 100, Apple developed a prototype tablet which was PowerBook Duo based. They called it “Pen Light”. The problem is – since they did not want this prototype affecting the sales of their Message Pad, they chose not to sell the device.
After a few more years, more Newton-based PDAs were released by Apple. In the year 2001, they successful introduced the iPod portable music player. Then last 2007, Apple re-entered iPhone in the mobile computing market. This device (which we are all familiar with) is smaller than the iPad but it features a camera as well as a mobile phone. Moreover, this device pioneered the multitouch interface of the mobile OS of Apple – the iOS.
During the latter part of 2009, the release of the Apple iPad became the buzz among gadget buffs and techie geeks. Then, on January 2010, Steve Jobs broke the news about the iPad at a press conference in San Francisco. He clarified that the iPad was developed way before the iPhone.
Now that more and more people have become aware and familiar with the iPad, the technology behind it seems to be drawing in more people to buying one. When you think about it, if you will look past the price and consider the conveniences and benefits, this tablet is definitely well worth it.
